ABOUT BUMBLE AND BUMBLE
Bumble and bumble was founded in 1977, as a small salon on the fringe of New York’s Hairdressers Row. Stylists from around the world came to work, learn and teach techniques to their fellow stylists. Clients travelled vast distances to undergo the makeovers for which the salon was becoming famous. Soon after, Bumble and bumble began training sessions in cutting, colouring and styling. This culture of creative interchange was vibrant, progressive, and kept them fresh and new.
The first product, Brilliantine, was revealed in 1990 and was born out of a need to develop products (which didn’t exist at the time) that hairdressers could use editorially – ones that could be mixed and layered to produce a broad range of effects. Bumble and bumble soon began introducing it to carefully selected salons and stylists who had respect for the craft and who aspired to achieve excellence in hairdressing.
Today, that group is the Bumble and bumble Salon Network – a collective of independent salons and stores that sells their products and shares their vision. The members attend Bumble and bumble University (Bb.U), an institute for higher learning and a centre for the art and commerce of hairdressing culture.
The work that Bumble and bumble stylists and editorial team do at the salon and on the runway continues to serve as inspiration for their renowned line of products, which are created and tested in their laboratories and coveted worldwide.
Bumble and bumble is about change and modernity. To this day, they reject hair shows, revere hair heroes, cultivate creativity and foster disciplined rebellion. Above all, they are deeply, passionately and fearlessly dedicated to the craft of hairdressing.
